The fourth iteration of the UK Racketlon Super Series got underway with the 2020 East Midlands Open in Nottingham.  With all the information, including a very special guest (trophy), is our newest correspondent, Emma Leighton.

East Midlands Open

An exciting East Midlands event and season opener was made even greater with the arrival of the World Cup trophy – even if it did arrive in two Tesco bags!

Defending Men’s Super Series champion (2018, 2019), Dan Busby, took maximum points away from East Midlands to stand him in good stead for a possible Super Series hat trick. Hannah Boden played three consistent matches and dominated the badminton against three strong opponents to take the top spot leading into the Women’s Super Series at the British Championships. Returning Racketlon player, John Bult, swept into the top space in the Challengers’ Super Series having finished fifth in the Men’s A. Peter Barton, who won Men’s B, sits just behind in second place. It was good to see the Masters event back in the first Super Series of the season, with Simon Lau taking advantage of this to ensure he earned first place in the Masters. In the Futures, Cam Leighton took the lead following a dominating performance. Determined performances by Oliver Barton and James Vincent meant they earned second and third place respectively.

With The Parklangley Club hosting the British Championships and second round of the 2020 Super Series on the 18th and 19th April all of the categories show that there is everything to play for.
