UK Racketlon

Written by James Pope

As mentioned in the recent Newsletter, we have been busy adding events to the UK Tour, and since that newsletter went out we have added an additional two events, both seeing Racketlon back in something of its spiritual homes, Redbridge and Edinburgh.

Good Friday 10th April (Bank Holiday) - The Lesser & Co Open - Redbridge Sports Centre

The Redbridge Sports Centre, from English Open's to London 2012 training venue, to Peter Nicol vs Stefan Adamsson exhibition in 2008; Racketlon has been synonymous with this venue over the years.  Despite having hung his organisational boots a few years ago; Keith Lesser is back to run an event in his home county.  Happening just 7 days before the British Championships, this is the perfect chance for you to warm up before the event.  With Keith in organisational charge and sponsoring the event, it will feature all the usual staples of a UK Tour event (feather shuttles and standardised draws), but retain the usual delayed start of 12 noon associated with the Essex Open.

Entry opens on Wednesday 12th February at 5pm and the tournament link will be here on our Tournaments Page.

Saturday 23rd May - Edinburgh Open - Edinburgh

Scotland and Racketlon are strong bedfellows, from Judy Murray and a World Team Championships bronze medal in 2002, through to providing Britain's only singles Elite World Champions to date (Sarah McFayden, Women's Elite 2004; Calum Reid, Men's Elite 2011); UK Racketlon has enjoyed a lot of success thanks to events such as the Scottish Open drawing players in.  After an 8 year hiatus, far too long, the UK Tour is back in Scotland and back in Edinburgh, as the experienced hand of Will Coley sets up the event. The tournament will be played at Galleon Centre for Sport and Watsonians Squash Club.

Entry will open next month and again the tournament link will be here on our Tournaments Page.

With the County Championships, Staffordshire Open (27th June), Northumberland Open (14th June), and the Cotswolds Open (3rd May) all following on from the British Championships, an excellent few months of Racketlon is on the cards!
