UK Racketlon

Written by James Pope

Everyone at UK Racketlon would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy new year, no doubt we have all faced challenges over the past 20 months or so, so here is very much hoping this is a year filled with Racketlon and community.  To that end, we are delighted to have been able to expand on our 2022 Tournament Calendar with some confirmed events added.

East Midlands Open - 16th January

Our first event is almost ready to go, the East Midlands Open.  With the ongoing Omicron situation, Tournament Sam Barker recently released this statement:

"I hope everyone had a safe and happy Christmas. As things stand, the East Midlands Open is still taking place on January 16th and will take place unless either the venue or the government says that it is not allowed. Because of Omicron and the landscape at the moment, all players must provide a negative lateral flow test on arrival at the venue, whether vaccinated or not. This is for the safety of all players, tournament organisers and the staff at the venue.

There are still plenty of spots left in the Women’s and Juniors Categories. Any male players wanting to enter can email tournament director Sam Barker at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to be added to the reserve list. Have a Happy New Year!"

In the event of any changes, then Sam will be in contact with players directly.

Letchworth Open (20th February) and Hertfordshire Open (30th October)
The management of the Letchworth Squash and Tennis Club are really enjoying hosting us, and as such have asked for us to have two events in 2022.  Our traditional Hertfordshire Open will return for its 13th running in its usual October half-term slot, while a new Letchworth Open will debut on the tour on the 20th February.  Entry for this event will open on Tuesday 18th January, the link will be on our Events page here.

Kent Open - 7th August
A favoured summer haunt of the UK Tour is to head to Canterbury and the Kent Open.  Run by our Chairman and scheduler extraordinaire Ray Jordan, this event always runs like clockwork and is always enjoyable!

World Touring the UK - CHA Nick Matthew Steel City Open (15th-17th April) & IWT London Open (22nd-24th July)
The FIR World Tour makes two visits to the UK in 2022, the first is the Challenger event the Nick Matthew Steel City Open being held at the Hallamshire Club in Sheffield, from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th April.  Entry for this event is bound to be popular, so we will ensure we advertise when it is opening in advance to all our players across our channels and in the Newsletter.  Entry for the event will be here.

The second event will be the IWT London Open back at the Roehampton Club. Our last visit there, in the summer of 2019 saw professional squash player Alison Waters finish second as Amke Fischer managed to hobble to victory and Leon Griffiths claimed the Men's title.  This summer (weather depending) we will once again be back on the grass at Roehampton from Friday 22nd July to Sunday 24th July.
