Rules

The Tournament Organisers reserve the right to default any player who they consider to be conducting themselves in an inappropriate manner. Players must:

  • Behave in a manner that avoids bringing the sport into disrepute

  • Respect officials and accept their decisions

  • Refrain from the use of audible and visual obscenity

  • Refrain from ball and racket abuse

  • Not use unfair or bullying tactics to gain advantage on court.

By entering the tournament, every player agrees to assist in refereeing one or more sports if required.

Please show respect for the time schedule! A 'Walk Over' will occur after only 5 minutes. Play should be continuous thereafter. If any player so wishes, sides are switched at the time when 11 points are first reached by one of the players. A maximum break of one minute should be allowed when 11 points is first reached by any player in each set.

Warming up at the next sport must commence within 3 minutes of the end of the previous set. A warm up must last no longer than 3 minutes.

Get your match cards at the desk before each game and return it after you have filled in the result. Balls etc. are included in the entry fee.

Each competitor should take all necessary precautions to minimise his/her own risk and is solely responsible for any loss, damage, personal injury or death suffered by him/her or caused to others parties as a result of any act, defect, neglect or omission by him/her.

If the tournament has to be cancelled or postponed for any reason, the organisers will only refund 95% of the individuals entry fees, if paid already.  The other 5% will be kept by the organiser as an administration fee.

Competitors must wear recognised tennis and squash clothing and shoes for all sports in the racketlon contest. Please avoid wearing white clothing for table tennis, as matches will be played with white table tennis balls.

The current world ranking will be used to compile the seeding for each category.

If you have not pulled out of the competition before the entry deadline you are committed, no matter if you show up for the tournament or not.

All players must inform themselves of the time of their first match by accessing the draws on this website.

All competitors are guaranteed at least 2 matches. International competitors are guaranteed at least 3 matches.

The Tournament Committee/Referee reserves the power to:
a) Refuse entries not accompanied by a remittance for the amount of the entry fees. Refuse any entry without assigning a reason.

The Basics

Racketlon is the sport in which you play your opponent in each of the following four racket sports: table tennis, squash, badminton & tennis. A racketlon match contains 4 sets, one in each sport. The winner will be the best all round racket player.

The sets are played in the following order (from smallest to largest court) - table tennis, badminton, squash and tennis.

 Scoring

Each set ends when one of the players reaches 21 points. Every rally results in a point to the winner of the rally - just like table tennis. Also, like in table tennis, the winner needs to have a margin of at least two points to win the set. A set can thus end e.g. 22-20 or 25-23 but never 21-20.

The winner of a Racketlon match is not the one that wins most sets, but the one that scores the most points in total. This means that it is possible to lose 3 out of the 4 sets and still win the match. If any of the players so wishes the match shall be stopped as soon as the winner has enough points for the match to be decided.

If after 4 sets both players have exactly the same number of points, then the tennis set is extended with one single point. The winner of that single point is also the winner of the full match. Server is decided by the drawing of lots. The winner decides who will serve. To off-set the server's advantage there is no second service in the single point.

All other aspects of the game are regulated by the rules of the individual sports.

 Serving

At the beginning of the match, lots are drawn. The winner decides whether to start serving or receiving in table tennis. The player, who starts serving in table tennis, starts receiving in badminton, starts serving in squash and starts receiving in tennis. In each set (except in squash, of course) the player who starts receiving decides what end to start the set from.

After every 2 points the serve goes to the other player. At the first of these 2 serves the server can choose from which side to serve. The second serve must then be from the other side. After 20-20 the serve switches hand at every point until the set is decided

In tennis the server has 2 chances - first and second service - just as in normal tennis.

If any of the players so wishes sides are switched at the time when 11 points are first reached by one of the players.
